I'm so lonely. What do I do? I had a great day with friends today-interesting people and conversations, unlimited food and drinks of any kind, a sunny day, a great backyard--it couldn't be better. Came home at 7pm. But here I am lonely again. I seem to need so much right now. I don't want to wear my few good friends out, yet now is NOT the time to make new friends. I am unemployed & actively looking for a new job, I ended my relationship 6 weeks ago (but who's counting) because it was so unhealthy. My therapist says for me to expect to be lonely right now as I concentrate on putting my life back together. But still, I am lonely. Any advice?

    Actually I have An adorable dog. We went on a nice long walk as soon as I came home. It doesn't take much for me to become lonely again. I'm normally not this way--I've never been in this "place" before. The fundamentals of my life have dropped off: job, income, relationship. I'm trying not to gey too depressed. I'm trying to see this as just a hard time, and that by a few months something will break. Maybe I will even get a job offer this week--I have been interviewing. Still it's such a hard time. Any other ideas?

    Get involved in something. Whether it's a political or an issue campaign, or volunteering of some kind, or sign up for a class. It's good to be around other people even if you are not specifiy looking to "make friends."

    Dear lonely You sound kinda depressed, to me. Is this a situational feeling, or have you always felt lonely? I think if you're going through hard times at the moment, and it's not a personality trait, that good friends would want to be there to help you out some. In addition to continuing to look for work, you should get out and do things that make you feel physiy better, like going on walks/hikes, going to the beach, planting a garden, things like that.     it happens to the best of us There are times when its good to feel the lonely and be al It sucks at the time, but as you move through it you'll understand. That is if you don't already. Do get out though, there is a lot to do in the city. Think about what you havent done that you were missing because of the relationship. Spoil yourself.

    Yes I understand that this is what needs to be done right now. Because I have gravitated toward unhealthy situations (which I am working on in therapy), it is important that I just be "quiet" and do what I have to do rather than seek distraction "outside of myself." This is a very difficult/painful/lonely place to be. Getting out is good. My dog will love it and that will make me happy. Thank you for your input.
